OUR WINES
Rogge Cloof aims to provide a unique wine experience reflecting the magic and tastes of the Roggeveld Karoo.

Rogge Cloof Wines
Rogge Cloof offers a unique wine experience inspired by the magic of the Roggeveld Karoo. Situated 1,500m above sea level and 250km from the ocean, our vineyards are part of the highest and coldest wine region in South Africa – a true high-altitude, low-temperature terroir.

The Mediterranean microclimate here is marked by low humidity, dry winds, clear skies, and intense light, creating ideal conditions for distinctive, flavourful wines.

Our wine journey began in 2004 with the first vines planted at Kanolfontein – 1ha Syrah and 0.5ha Chardonnay – thriving in mineral-rich loam soils. Despite the devastating black frost of 2018, we revived these 20-year-old vines, which now produce exceptional wines.

In 2018, Rogge Cloof planted its own vineyards – the highest in the Cape – with 0.5ha Pinot Noir and 0.5ha Chardonnay, enriched by volcanic clay soils from nearby Salpeterkop. Our first wines from these blocks will be released in 2025.

Working alongside renowned viticulturist Rosa Kruger and winemaker Johan Kruger, we use minimal chemicals to protect both quality and the environment. The later, shorter growing season here means harvest is usually two weeks later than Stellenbosch, giving our wines their unique profile.

Cape to Cairo Letaba
Pinot Noir 2019
‘Letaba’ means “Sandy River” and comes from the Sotho word ‘Lehlaba’.
A wine with an intense, vivid translucent youthful purple-ruby appearance. Showing pronounced lifted perfume on the nose with red berry fruit, musk, wild mushrooms and hints of savoury richness and spice and a clean vibrant minerality.
The grapes for this 2019 Pinot Noir come from cooler slopes in Stellenbosch and grows on decomposed granite soils, which lends a natural high acidity and low pH to the grapes, which, in turn, gives great freshness and a fine mineral acidity to the final wine.
The alcohol level of the wine is 13% per volume. Matured for 16 months in French Oak.
Cape to Cairo Timbavati Chardonnay 2020
‘Timbavati’ means “The place where something sacred came down to earth from the Heavens”.
On the nose there is citrus, orange blossom, stone fruit, complex oak and a flinty minerality. Flavours are repeated on the palate, with a soft entry, rich mid palate, and fine mineral finish.
